Established in 1980, JR’s Bar & Grill Dallas is Texas’ most successful gay club, and the inspiration for like-named clubs in Houston, Washington D.C., and Denver. It has been remodeled and enlarged three times, evolving from a narrow, one story bar to the multi-level destination it is today, located at the corner of the gay Crossroads of Dallas.
One of Oak Lawn’s longest-standing watering holes, J.R.’s is a hub for all the action on Cedar Springs. Cheap drinks, a friendly crowd, and plenty of room to mingle make it a must-stop when you’re “cruising the crossroads.” Make your way to the upstairs patio.
Located on Cedar Springs in the Oak Lawn area, this popular bar has been remodeled and expanded three times since its opening in 1980. J.R’s boasts three full bars — two downstairs and another upstairs on its usually bustling covered patio/balcony. The patio makes for a great place to watch the basic hustle and bustle of a Friday or Saturday night on Cedar Springs as folks visit other nearby clubs, bars and restaurants, but expect huge crowds upstairs during events like the Alan Ross Texas Freedom Pride Parade and Festival.
